John Edward Nalty Obituary
John Edward Nalty
Resident of Stamford, Connecticut
John Edward Nalty, better known as Jack, formerly of San Jose California, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2015. John was born on September 29, 1929, in Denver Colorado. Educated by the Jesuits, John graduated from Regis High School in Denver in 1947. He attended University of Santa Clara where he played varsity basketball and tennis and graduated in 1951. After graduation he entered the Navy. In 1953, he married the love of his life Kathleen Butier. After completing his naval service, John and Kathleen returned to San Jose, and he enrolled at San Jose State University and earned both his MA and California teaching credential.
He began a magnificent 38 year career with the East Side Union High School District at both James Lick and Oak Grove High Schools. He taught countless students with energy and passion and earned the respect and admiration of students, parents, and administrators alike. From Mr. Nalty, students learned to read analytically and write cogently, but more importantly were challenged to give their best. After retiring from the East Side Union High School district, John taught for two more years at St. Lawrence High School.
Although John loved teaching, the job he loved the most was that of being a husband, father and grandfather. John was a loving and supportive spouse, father and grandfather. His steadfast faith, love for his family, and pursuit of excellence in all that he did were hallmarks of who he was. These lessons live on in the lives of his children and grandchildren. John is survived by two of his three children Sean Nalty and Elaine Nalty Clark, his beloved daughters-in-law Carol and Margaret and his seven grandchildren, Caitlin and Nicole Nalty, Kathleen, John, Mary and Anne Clark, and John Paul Nalty and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years Kathleen Butier Nalty, his son Paul Nalty, his son in law, Scott Clark, his parents John Raymond Nalty and Marguerite Holihan Nalty, and his sister Jane Nalty Berger.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7th at 10AM at St. Gabriel Parish 914 Newfield Ave, Stamford. Burial will be private. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Our Lady of Grace St. Vincent DePaul, 3433 Somerset Avenue, Castro Valley CA, 94546.
