Jack passed away on March 6 after a long illness. He grew up in Wausau, WI and was a graduate of MIT and CalTech with a PhD in Geophysics. A thirty-five year employee of the United States Geological Survey he was instrumental in establishing the National Center for Earthquake Research in Menlo Park.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty years, Mary, and children Anne Mills, Joan, Paul, Brian and Margaret, daughter-in-law Constance and grandchildren Shawn, Kevin and Lorin Mills and Megan and Sarah Healy.
Jack was a member of the AGU, NARFE and Just Faith. He believed the solution to the world's problems could be found in the study of physics. He loved his work, the outdoors, his family and friends. Jack engaged all he met and challenged them to think about the world differently; he left an indelible impression. Jack will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Friends are invited to attend visitations on Fri. March 9 at 5 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7 P.M. at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real, Mtn .View. A Funeral Mass will be held on Sat., March 10 at 10:30 A.M. at St Athanasius Church, 160 N. Rengstorff, Mtn. View. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos.
