Joseph L. Rick

Joseph L. Rick Resident of San Carlos Passed away the morning of March 1, 2010, after succumbing to a battle with cancer that was diagnosed just 5 months ago. Joe was born in Argo, Illinois on October 2, 1934. He received his BS degree from the University of Miami and carried a lust for learning throughout his life. He served in the military and received a Sharp Shooters Award and the Medal of Honor. He worked for United Airlines as a Senior Systems Analyst at both the Chicago and San Francisco finance departments. He retired after 36 years and maintained the countless dear friends he made along the way. As an enthusiastic participant in the San Mateo County Genealogical Society he was able to help others with their research and received many certificates of appreciation for his outstanding dedication. Whenever Joe was involved he gave 110% and will be sorely missed by many. Joe had many passions. He loved working on his computer for hours at a time researching his family tree. He cultivated beautiful Cymbidium Orchids and shared himself with many species of birds that flocked to the numerous feeders in his garden. During the fall and winter he loved to follow football, especially college games. All the while happily hooking beautiful rugs. The month of May always led he and his wife to Maui where he finally relaxed for a few weeks of the year. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Inge, and his families in California and Illinois. Joe has requested there be no funeral service. Instead a small private celebration of his life will be held in his honor. If you wish, the family suggests making a donation in his honor to Hospice Services C/O of The Veterans Hospital of Palo Alto, 3801 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304, where he received wonderful care, or the charity of your choice. Joe should always be remembered as our independently courageous husband and friend, may he rest in peace. Neptune Society/Belmont 650-592-9880
