Margery Blondefield Obituary

Margery Bacon Blondefield Margery lost a courageous three year battle with cancer on February 27, 2008 in Mountain View, California. She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on November 13, 1958, and lived on a wheat farm near there until her father, Peter James Bacon, passed away. Her mother, Hyla Trimmell Bacon, moved her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1968. Margery completed elementary school through college in Albuquerque. In high school she sang in the concert choir, lettered in four sports and hiked in the Sandia Mtns. every chance she got. She served as President of the Civil Engineering Honor Society at the University of New Mexico before starting a 25 year career in aerospace engineering. Margery worked as an engineer for NASA, TRW and Lockheed. She worked in Alice Springs, Australia in the 1980s and later in Maryland and California. A highlight of her career was transmitting the command turning on the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990. Margery was spunky and ever the optimist. Her positive outlook shown in her cheerful smile. She loved animals, especially cats, and Margery loved adventure. She traveled to all 50 states and all 7 continents. She climbed Mt. Whitney and Jbel Tubkal (highest peak in North Africa), drove the Alaska Highway, bicycled throughout the Holy Land, rode camels in the Sahara desert and the outback of Australia, rafted the Grand Canyon and scuba dived on the Great Barrier Reef. Recently, her favorite activity was traveling with her husband to visit family and friends. Margery is survived by her beloved husband, Clark, of Sunnyvale, her brother and niece, Richard and Sofia Bacon of Albuquerque, many other relatives and countless friends. Donations may be made to the ASPCA or a charity of your choice.
