Richard "Rich" Gibbons
1935 - 2020
Resident of Cupertino
"Rich" Gibbons passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 10th, 2020. He was born in San Francisco in November 1935, and lived in the Bay Area his entire life. He graduated from Menlo Atherton High School and attended The College of San Mateo. Throughout the years he maintained friendships going back to his school days.
A majority of his work life was spent as a professional recruiter for high technology firms such as Johnson and Johnson and KLA Tencor.
His family and friends truly loved him for his kindness and his incredible dry wit. He loved his family, his many nieces, nephew and many cousins. We all enjoyed so many memorable times growing up together. He was everyone's beloved uncle.
Rich gave generously to numerous charities, often charities supporting the environment and to people in need. He was a life long member of the Sierra Club and was a dedicated environmentalist and early heath food advocate. . . His friends nicknamed him Euell Gibbons!
Rich loved his 49ers, and San Francisco Giants and even bought 2 old candlestick stadium seats when the stadium was torn down!
Rich had many lifelong friends and they all loved their cars. After he traded his trusty 70s Honda Civic for a snazzy black corvette he never looked back. He was a beloved member of the Camino Corvette Club. He loved to auto cross his cars and then join others at Alice's Restaurant in Woodside. He then bought a 427 Cobra…Problem was, he could only drive it in the summer as it had no top!
Rich loved his wine, and volunteered many hours working at his friends wineries, especially La Crema Vinera and Joseph Swan Vineyards.
Rich loved to travel. He enjoyed visiting with relatives in Australia and enjoyed attending the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Drive on ~ RIP Rich
