1937 - 2018
Resident of Danville
Robert D. Leasure, M.D., age 81, died on August 27, 2018, at his home in Danville, CA, with his wife Nancy at his side. Bob grew up in Galesburg, IL, and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where he met his future wife. He graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Chicago and did his internship and part of his residency in internal medicine there. Facing the physician draft, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Moffett Field, CA. When his term of service was up, they decided to stay in the Bay Area, and he finished his training at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. He opened a private practice in internal medicine near Good Samaritan Hospital and stayed there for the next 30 years. During that time he was twice named Chief of the Medical Staff at Good Sam. During his retirement he and Nancy fulfilled a lifelong dream, sailing out the Golden Gate and heading south. They fetched up in Mexico, where they spent several wonderful years. When it came time to come ashore, they settled in Danville, CA to be near family. There, he was appointed to the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging, where he served for 16 years, including two terms as President.
Bob was an intelligent, compassionate man. He loved to sail, tend his roses, travel, read, do crossword and sudoku puzzles. He built beautiful and intricate model ships. He loved his family above all else. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Nancy, daughters Jennifer and Elizabeth, grandchildren Maddy and Ryan, brother Arthur, and sister Louise. He lived a full life and touched many people, all of whom will be glad they knew him. He will be buried at sea.
