Shelby Blair Brewer
Aug. 11, 1978-June 12, 2016
Resident of San Jose
Shelby Blair Brewer was born on August 11, 1978, in Santa Clara, California, and died at the family home in San Jose, California, on June 12, 2016, after a four and one half year battle with brain cancer. Shelby was the beloved only child of Martin and Cheryl Brewer.
Shelby attended Schallenberger Elementary School, Hoover Middle School, and Archbishop Mitty High School, from which she graduated in 1996. She continued her education at West Valley College before transferring to San Jose State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice in 2000.
Shelby held a variety of jobs while attending college, including part-time work at the Santa Clara County Probation Department. She eventually became a full-time Probation Community Worker and, in 2002, a Deputy Probation Officer. She remained employed in that position at the time of her death.
Shelby loved her job as a Deputy Probation Officer. She had a variety of assignments during her career, most recently in the Juvenile Division Court Unit, where she was highly respected for her hard work and knowledge of Juvenile Court law and Probation Department procedures.
Shelby will be remembered most for her beautiful smile, quick wit, and mischievous sense of humor. She was a "jokester" who loved practical jokes that victimized many people over the years. She had many friends who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly, as will her parents and family.
Shelby is survived by her parents, Martin and Cheryl Brewer of San Jose; her aunt, Debra Walker of Clovis; and numerous cousins, including her dear cousin, Nancy Brewer Cavagnaro of Mountain View.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center, and Dr. Elwyn Cabebe and staff at Valley Medical Oncology Consultants for the devoted and compassionate care they provided for Shelby. Her family is grateful for all that they did for her.
A celebration of Shelby's life will be held at Villa Ragusa, 35 South Second Street, Campbell, California, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, Shelby and her family ask that donations in Shelby's name be made to the UCSF Foundation, Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145 (Memo line: In memory of Shelby Brewer).
