Susan Marie Qawasmi Obituary
Susan Marie Qawasmi
June 23, 1953 - September 10, 2018
Resident of San Jose
Susan Qawasmi passed away on September 10, 2018. She lived a life of love, generosity and nurturing. She bravely battled cancer for nine months, and remained strong to the end.
Susan was born in Denver and came to San Jose as a young girl. She held a very special place in her parents' hearts. The sweet, blonde, precocious child was hard to resist, easy to love, and irresistibly charming. Graduated from Overfelt High and attended SJSU, where she met her husband, Azzam. Suzie and Azzam were married for 42 years and were very proud of their son Omar, whose birth was a source of great joy. Her love for Omar was a shining of example of her loving and nurturing nature. Her love for her son is endless. Not only did she have a special place in her parents heart but she was a special person to her entire family. Nieces and nephews went to her often for advice, and loved her sharp sense of humor and profound generosity. She always found a way to give more.
Sue took pride in her 25-year career with PacBell, and after retiring from the company, started working for Evergreen School District as a Para-Educator, serving students with the greatest needs. She traveled in Europe and also visited the Middle East to spend time with her husband's family, even living there for a time.
Susan loved so much of life including, especially photography, film, and sports. She loved going to the movies, foreign film being a special favorite. She championed the family Oscar pool several times, enjoyed rooting for the Giants and Warriors, cherished her time on the coast, and dreamed of having a home on the beach. She was an ice cream aficionado and knew the best parlors across the Bay Area. She was always fun to be around. Her loving, hilarious, gentle spirit made her someone you always wanted to be around.
With much sorrow we say goodbye to to our beautiful mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. We will always love, miss, and remember you.
Susan is survived by her husband Azzam and son Omar. Her sisters: Edith Hernandez, Kathy Duque (Ernesto), Toni Devera (Frank), Adrianna Alvarez (Jose). Sister-in-laws: Liz Navarrette and Liz Gibbs. Predeceased by her loving mother and father, Katie and Tony Navarrete, brothers Albert and Martin.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, 11am at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Chapel of the Roses.
