Obituary Condolences

Tony J. Sanchez Age 58 passed away December 2, 2007. Loving son of Mary Barcellos Sanchez and the late Tony B. Sanchez. A lifelong Santa Clara resident and employee of the City of Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department for 40 years, Tony was best known as "MR. SOFTBALL" by the greater Northern California softball community. Sports, especially softball, were Tony's passion, and he organized and directed hundreds of leagues and tournaments that were enjoyed by thousands of participants, enthusiasts and their families. He was also proud of his membership in the PGA Hole in One club. Tony was manager of the World Champion Santa Clara Laurels Women's Fastpitch Team, the World Champion LeBlanc Men's Fastpitch Team, President of the South Bay Sports Association of Recreation Agencies, Youth Softball Commissioner for the Amateur Softball Association of America, and hosted softball teams from throughout the world. Tony was a brother to the Northern California Parks and Recreation Community, but first in his heart he was a proud and devoted son to his mother and late father. Tony will always be remembered for his enduring kindness, his deep and abiding loyalty, his love for family and friends, and his generous spirit. He will be greatly missed. All are invited to attend a Rosary on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. (Visitation is 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) at Lima Family Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara and a Memorial Mass on Monday, Dec. 10, at 9 a.m. at St. Clare Church, 941 Lexington St., Santa Clara. Interment immediately following at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony's name can be made to Spanish Heritage Scholarship Fund.
