Virginia "Jinny" Smolik Obituary
Virginia "Jinny" Smolik
8/31/24 - 6/26/18
Resident of Sunnyvale
Jinny was the youngest of nine children born to an immigrant Italian family. She grew up in South San Francisco where she met Jaro "Jay" Smolik at a USO dance. They married in 1943 and 2 months later, he was shipped off to Normandy, France during WWII. Upon his fortunate return, they raised three children – Regina, Jay and Steve, in Mountain View, then Eureka and finally 46 years in Sunnyvale, always providing unconditional love and support. As a home maker, Jinny loved to cook - providing countless meals for family and friends.
Many happy times were spent with her 8 siblings, their spouses and dozens of nieces and nephews. Raised Catholic, she had a strong Christian faith and was involved in numerous prayer groups where she made many long term friendships. She loved crafting, culinary groups, engaging with neighbors, knitting/crocheting and volunteering at a local senior home - sharing her faith. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and large extended family.
Jinny is survived by her husband, Jay, her 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was well loved and will be missed by many. She and Jay had an extraordinarily loving marriage and would have celebrated their 75th anniversary later this year.
