Wayne Edward Amacher
June 18, 1936 – February 14, 2021
Resident of Sunnyvale
Wayne Amacher passed away at home on February 14, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Sharon (Jay Hollick) Amacher and Susan (Robert Navarro) Amacher, son Andrew Amacher, sisters Dorothy (Gene) Schaaf and Diane (John) Miller, brothers David (Charlene) Amacher and Walt (Terri) Amacher, grandsons Jason, Justin, and Max, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Wayne was born in Canton, Ohio and grew up in Massillon. He received his BSEE from Case Western Reserve University and his MSEE from San Jose State University. He worked for 50 years as a hardware/firmware design and systems engineer at several companies, including Sylvania, BNR, Litton, Zarak Systems, and Zultys Technologies (which he co-founded). He was active in IEEE his entire professional career. Even in retirement, he was a life-long learner who was always reading up on the latest technologies and scientific discoveries. Wayne could fix practically anything, including his kids' cars! He poured his full energy and passion into everything he did, whether it was co-founding and serving on the board of the Cherryhill Neighborhood Association, playing indoor and outdoor soccer three times a week, or discussing politics and the world.
Wayne met Jean while working abroad; they married in 1964 in Wales after a whirlwind romance. While raising a wonderful family, Wayne and Jean also traveled the world together, visiting every continent but Antarctica over their 56 years of loving matrimony. The absolute joy of Wayne's life was his family; he loved family vacations and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Everyone whose life he touched knows he was a compassionate man with a kind and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in Wayne's memory to the American Cancer Society, Sutter Home Health Hospice of the Valley, or Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.
