Richard Arthur Carruthers Obituary
Richard Arthur Carruthers
Mar. 25, 1949- Jun. 27, 2015
Resident of Napa & Former San Jose Resident
Richard, "Rich" "Richie" was born in the Bronx, NY to Richard and Grace Carruthers as the youngest of 4 children. The family then moved and he grew up in Hempstead, Long Island. After serving his country in the Vietnam War with an honorable discharge as the rank of Sergeant, he moved to San Francisco where he met and married his loving wife.
He worked with K Wilson and Co. where he found a love for the print industry. He started his own business, RC Grafix, which ran successfully for over 20 years in the Bay Area. He and his wife made a home in San Jose and more recently he worked at The San Jose Mercury News as an Electrical Technician. Rich and Marisa moved to the beautiful city of Napa in March 2015.
Rich was a care-free and genuine man, who was the first to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors and playing sports, especially basketball, which he played well into his 50's. Over time, Richard also grew to love dining, travel, wine and exploring the Napa and Sonoma valleys with his family. Everyone knew how much he loved a good glass of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. A life time tinker and builder, he will be remembered for his good heart and hard work. A family man, who always put others before himself, he brought a smile and many laughs to those around him.
At age 66, Rich passed away at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. He is survived by his wife Marisa, two daughters Kathleen and Noreen, and three sisters Carol, Susan, and Nancy (deceased).
Memorial Service will be held Saturday July 11th at 2:45pm at the Palo Alto VA Hospital Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation in the name of Richard be made to: Hospice Care Fund Palo Alto VA Hospital 3801 Miranda Ave. 100-4A Palo Alto, CA 94304
