Raymond Spallone Obituary

Raymond D. Spallone
Nov. 25, 1923 - March 31, 2016
Resident of Santa Clara
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Raymond Daniel Spallone Sr.. Ray, as he was known to his friends, passed away peacefully from congestive heart failure with his family by his side on March 31st, 2016. Ray was born in San Jose, CA on November 25, 1923 to Dominico and Mary Josephine Spallone. Long time resident of Santa Clara, CA, from August 1954 until his death.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Frances, his daughter Renee Spallone Haberman (Paul Haberman) and his son Raymond Jr.,. Also the lights of his life were his granddaughters Molly Gallet, Danielle Callahan (Sean Callahan) and his great granddaughter Jordyn Gallet, and last but not least his precious dog, Oscar. Ray is also survived by his sister Vera Cadigan and brother Dominic Spallone, brother-in-law Dr. Russell J. Marino and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
After attending San Jose Technical School Ray proudly served among the members of the 474th Fighter Group within the 430th Fighter Squadron of the U.S.A.A.C. during WW II as a 1st. class Radio Mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge (in late 1945) Ray began his career as a carpet and linoleum layer, becoming a journeyman mechanic. In 1964, Ray was elected to the position of Business Agent (later becoming Business Manager) of the Carpet-Linoleum Layer's Union, Local 12. It was a position he would hold until his retirement in July, 1987.
Ray was a founding member of the North Star Social Club, active member of the Eagles and Sons of Sicily Clubs, both in San Jose. Ray loved spending time at his cherished cabin in North Lake Tahoe that he built. He was an avid golfer, card player, amazing cook, floor layer, craftsman, home builder and professional sports fan (Giants and 49ers).
A memorial service for Ray will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on April 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 pm.. A reception at the North Star Club will follow.
