Doris Slinkard Wilson
August 4, 1926 - April 6, 2016
Resident of Santa Clara
Doris Slinkard Wilson passed away peacefully after a brief decline in her health. An active lifelong Methodist, she touched many through her dedication to her church family and her skillful, caring qualities.
Doris was born in Memphis TN, the younger child of a Memphis attorney. She was Valedictorian of the class of 1944 at South Side High School, Memphis. The following year, she married James W. (Jim) Wilson, a high school classmate and fellow member of Methodist Youth Fellowship, then an Army Air Force Officer.
After moving to Sunnyvale in 1961, Doris remained a resident of Santa Clara Valley for 55 years. At heart, however, she was still a Southern lady and enthusiastically told stories about the South from her formative years. Doris was a mother, grandmother, skilful amateur genealogist, gardener, bookworm and a retired medical assistant. She spent years providing care and comfort to oncology patients.
Doris actively attended Methodist churches in Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Saratoga and for the last 14 years, Campbell United Methodist Church. She was a longtime participant in its Caregiving Ministry and other church ministries.
She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Wilson and his wife Kathy of Half Moon Bay and Christopher Wilson of Redwood Valley, and her friend and companion Joan Boyle Wilson of Woodside; she is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda Wilson-Wong and two great-grandchildren Evan and Olivia Wong, of Honolulu, HI, Jeffrey Wilson of Marietta, GA, Anna Wilson of San Jose, Adam Wilson of Shanghai, China, Devin Wilson and Andrew Wilson, both of San Francisco.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00P.M at Campbell United Methodist Church, 1675 Winchester Blvd., Campbell. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Doris preferred that gifts should be made to Campbell United Methodist Church, designated for its outreach programs. View the online memorial for Doris Slinkard Wilson
