Robert Shields
December 20, 1925 - August 25, 2017
San Jose
Bob was born in Rockville Centre, New York. He died peacefully at home after a battle with cancer.
He served in the US Navy 1944-1947 and was heavily involved in flight training at Dartmouth College and later in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He moved to San Diego, California in 1955 and began working for Convair. He graduated from San Diego State University in 1963 with a degree in Physics. He began work for IBM shortly thereafter and remained with them until retirement in 1992. He was transferred to San Jose in 1978.
After retirement he volunteered for the San Jose Senior Services for many years doing taxes for the elderly. He was an active member of the SIR branch 125 for over 20 years, serving on the travel committee for much of that time. In that capacity he and his wife enjoyed trips to many points around the world.
He was an avid supporter and season ticket holder of the San Jose Giants for over 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Casey, two children, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed by many.

For the past 26 years, Bob has been a favorite neighbor of ours. Always taking the time to stop and say hello and share a story about a recent trip. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Casey and family.
