In Loving Memory
Robert Das
November 17, 1933 - August 23, 2017
Mr. Robert Herman Das passed away on the morning of Wednesday August 23rd, in the comfort of his Fremont, CA home. Robert was the devoted husband of Amelie "Dee" Scipio Das, (who pre-deceased him on September 29, 2016); beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met.
Robert was born and grew to manhood in Makassar, Indonesia. He immigrated to the Netherlands as a young man, where he served in the Dutch Merchant Marines as an engine mechanic. While he was a Merchant Marine, Robert had the good fortune of visiting and becoming fascinated by many of the world's great and exotic ports. As a result, he developed a love for travel, and did so at every opportunity.
Later, Robert and his lovely bride Dee, immigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he joined United Airlines, also as an engine mechanic, often working many extra hours to support his family. For ten years following his retirement from United Airlines. Robert volunteered regularly at Kaiser Hospitals in Fremont, CA. He was kind and generous with anyone he felt could use his help. Great with his hands, Robert could maintain and repair anything mechanical and electrical. He was devoted to physical fitness long before it became popular and enjoyed cultivating roses in his garden.
Robert is survived by his daughter Carla Das Dean and husband Richard Dean of Blowing Rock, NC; his son Eric M. Das and girlfriend Linda Arenas of Newark, CA; granddaughters Stephanie Kupcow. Jennafer Saguindel and honorary grandson Marcelo Benedetti, all of whom reside in San Mateo, CA; younger brothers Hans and his wife Margy of Oosterhout, Netherlands; Andre and his wife Dini of Fremont , CA; niece Tanya Colagreco, husband Tony and daughters Bianca and Sophia of New Jersey; and his adventurous nephew Rex J. Das who pre-deceased him on February 25, 2011.
Robert and Dee Das will be making one more trip together. Their final resting place will be with their daughter Carla and her husband Richard on their farm in Blowing Rock, NC.
To everyone who touched Robert's heart, and in true Robert fashion…"I appreciate, I appreciate."
