Judy D. Gilbert, beloved daughter of CDR. (USN Ret.) and Mrs. Arnold E. Downs and mother of Nathan S. Gilbert, passed away peacefully at the Monterey Community Hospital after a long and difficult illness. She will be greatly missed.
Born in Norfolk, VA Judy experienced a Navy dependent's childhood full of travel and adventure. After graduating from Pacific Grove High School, Judy attended the University of Nevada and San Jose State. Intellectually gifted, she particularly enjoyed the study of languages and literature. After college, she worked for the city of Monterey for 17 years and reared her son, the primary focus of her life.
Family was always Judy's first priority. She was predeceased by her father Arnold and her grandparents, William and Blanche Danforth, and C.E. and Orpha Downs. She is survived by mother, June D. Downs; son, Nathan; brother, Scott Downs and his wife Debbie, along with their children Ryan, Shawna, and Kyle; and her dear friends Liz, Mamie, and Dena.
Memorials may be sent to the Hospice of the Central Coast. Family memorial services are planned. A private burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell, South Dakota.

It was a gift to count "Judy" as a Friend in
High School~Her sweet & kind nature was very
special~She also had a wonderful sense of
humor~
We spent many great week-ends at each others
homes & on "double dates"~
In my collection of special things~there is a
poem she wrote for me~
Judy & her family will always remain one of the
Best memories of those years~
Please accept my Wishes for Peace at this time~
