I first met SFC Carbaugh in 2004. Needless to say he made a big impression on me.Walter was as knowledgeable about every subject as any and he knew it. If he didnt know it he would find out and let you know. You could not find a more dedicated Soldier or American for that matter. I was more than proud to serve with Walter. He made working hard fun and you never had a dull moment when he was around. He cared about Soldiers tremendously. The other think he cared about was his family! We would always tell us about his wife and kids. He was especially proud of his grand daughter and the nickname she called him. I will miss Walter espcially the conversations we would have have we departed the 5th Army TAC-Bliss, Ft Bliss TX. God Bless you Walter, you will truly be missed. Derric Anderson COL, USA RET

Our unit at Cp Parks worked with SFC Carbaugh in 2004 at Ft. Bliss, TX. He volunteered to help our logistics section prepare two large combat units for their deployment to Iraq. His work ethic and ability to get things done were invaluable to our mission. In fact we nicknamed him "A1" (for Army of One) because he could do almost anything we required. One of the highlights was having SFC Carbaugh's picture on the front page of the El Paso Times, when he was showing Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison some military equipment during her visit to the base. He was a pleasure to work with and may he rest in peace. God speed Sarge!
