Barbara Jean Leatherbury
February 28, 1937 - June 19, 2018
Barbara Jean Leatherbury age 81, Emmett, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home June 19th 2018. She was born February 28, 1937 in Phoenix, AZ, to Gertrude and Theodore Petersen. She was raised in Boise, ID with 2 delightful sisters and two Rowdy Brothers. After graduating from Boise High School in 1955, at the young age of 18 she went on a voyage to Sweden to visit her grandparents and explore her heritage. This would be a 9 day trip via an Ocean Liner by herself for the first time. Upon her return to Boise and after studying at Boise Beauty school to become a beautician. She married Robert Leatherbury on her 23rd birthday in 1960. While moving around from Tacoma, WA, and Hermiston, OR, they settled for awhile in John Day, OR to help run the family Restaurant and Hotel and raise their three wild monkeys AKA children. Then in the mid 70's they moved their family to Emmett, ID. Eventually, her and Bob divorced and she started a small business running Barb's Cut and Curl, out of her house. With her quirky sense of humor she quickly gained a very large clientele, who she was very compassionate about. Unfortunately, after two surgeries to remove brain tumors she retired. She kept busy by doing hair for close family and friends. Barbara will forever be loved and remember for her quirky sense of humor, and the fact that she drove in the demolition car derby.
Barbara's spirit has spun into space and wandered into Eternity where God surely caught her in His threads of light easing her soul as it sped toward heaven, showing her the way at last.
She is survived by her children, Tammy (Kevin) Vaughn of Roosevelt, WA; David (Becky) Leatherbury, Meridian, ID; Tracy Leatherbury, Filer, ID; grandchildren, Nichole, Candice, Brandon, Cassandra, Andrew, Garrett, and Jamie; many great grandchildren; Sisters Margaret (Richard) Anderson; Karen (Eric) Norquest both of Boise, ID and Brother Charles (Klaris) Petersen of Merlin, OR, special thanks to Ralph Gurney, Emmett, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Theodore Petersen, and her brother William (Billy) Petersen. Services will be conducted at a later date.
