Melvin McKay Briscoe

Melvin McKay Briscoe was born on March 7, 1928, in Black Eagle, Mont., to Byron Edward Briscoe and Emma Kunz. He passed away at home with his family in Emmett, Idaho, on Jan. 13, 2014.
Melvin served honorably in the Army Air Corp at the end of World War II and also in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Japan as an airplane mechanic. He was discharged in 1950 with the rank of sergeant, having received the Good Conduct Medal and Korean Service Medal.
Melvin returned from the service to the Great Falls, Mont., area. It was here he met his sweetheart, Fay Harris. Melvin and Fay were married for time and all eternity in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 28, 1957. Melvin and Fay began married life in the Great Falls area where he worked as a delivery man, salesman and foreman for the Aryshire Dairy. While there, their first three children were born.
In December of 1961 Melvin and Fay moved to Emmett, Idaho, where their family became complete after the birth of five more children. In Emmett, Melvin started a dairy farm and worked it alongside his oldest four sons.
In 1973, Melvin went to work at the Boise Cascade Sawmill in the Power Plant as a fuel man. Upon the completion of the new plant, he became an operating engineer. He was known for the large volume of electricity he produced during his shifts. He worked there until 1988 when he retired due to poor health.
Melvin has served actively in his church, serving four local missions and one Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was ordained a High Priest.
Melvin was a loving father. He always provided well for his family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rulon Michael Briscoe.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Fay; his children, David and Monica Briscoe of Emmett, Joanna Briscoe of Franklin, Tenn. (wife of Rulon), Brian and Shirlee Briscoe of Emmett, Mark and Jenny Briscoe of Milford, Mich., Alise and William Hale Emmett, John and Patricia Briscoe of Payette, Idaho, M. Dann and Jenny Briscoe of Meridian, Idaho and Cynthia and Mathew Whipple of Meridian; and 40 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Grandpa, We Love You!
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center in Emmett. Viewing will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. before the services begin. Burial will take place Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
Services are under the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel of Emmett.
