W. "Ed" Smith

W. "Ed" Smith passed away on Oct. 15, 2012. Ed was born on Aug. 22, 1924 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was the second child of five sons raised by his folks, Roland and Fern Smith.
At an early age, the family moved to Lodi, Calif., where Ed had made his home since. Ed entered the Navy in 1942 and served in WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Esther Ann "Tess" Ninnis on Oct. 7, 1943.
Ed's career revolved around the tire business. After retiring from his own business, he went to work as parts manager for his daughter and son-in-law at Terry's Cherokee R.V. Service for 16 years.
Ed was Past Master of the Lodi Masonic Lodge and was a member over 65 years. Ed was Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star; first, in 1952 serving with his mother who was Worthy Matron, and again in 2010 serving with his daughter, Debbie as Worthy Matron.
Ed and Tess have four children, son, Bill (Connie) Smith of Herald, Calif. and daughters, Sharon Ullrich of Lodi, and Debbie (Terry) Phillips and Krista (Casey) Chraska, both of Emmett, Idaho. Ed is also survived by 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and friend, Henrietta Andress.
In lieu of flowers, Ed would have liked to see donations made to the Shriners Children's Hospital at 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817.
