Quinneth Newman Mitchell was born April 5, 1927, in North Powder, Ore., and entered Heaven peacefully in his sleep the morning of April 4, 2014, in Emmett, Idaho.
He moved with his parents to Baker, Ore., in 1929 and then to Emmett in 1936 where his family bought 160 acres of land and started a successful stock farm/ranch, including milk cows. He graduated from Emmett High School going directly into the Navy. After the war he returned home to work on the family ranch and farm all his life.
In 1964 he married Marie Pitman.
Quinneth served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hancock. The thrill of his life was when he piloted that carrier under the Golden Gate Bridge.
He will be remembered by his friends Roy Barnes, Melinda Heath, Bob Nichols and Joann Lawrence for his sense of humor, his love of dancing and his loyalty to the Boise State University Bronco football team.
Quinneth is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; mother and father; sisters, Elva and Yvonne; brother, Walden.
He is survived by his two sons Herschel Mitchell of Meridian, Idaho and John Lawrence of Renton, Wash.; Joyce Kasper (honorary daughter) of Caldwell, Idaho; nieces Cheryl Bailey and Sandra Wright; and his grandson Jason Mitchell and great-grandson Daniel Mitchell.
Services will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
"Dancing is like dreaming with your feet." Sweet dreams, Quinneth.
