Virginia Smith Obituary
Virginia Smith, 94, lifelong Ashland resident passed away Fri. Feb. 8th after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Herbert Bunny Smith who died in 2001. A graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1942, Virginia worked as a secretary for many years; starting with Perini Corp in Framingham, later for Ryan Insurance in Ashland, and finally for Town of Ashland Youth and Family Services. In addition, she worked for the Framingham Hat Company assembling hats and from home as a cake decorator. She was active in her community; co-founding member of the VFW Ladies Aux. in Ashland; serving on the Board of Directors for the Sudbury Valley School in Framingham; and serving Ashlands underprivileged youth by helping to organize the Campership Program and the towns Christmas drive. She was also active with the Rebekahs and Girl Scouts. She is survived by six children; Pamela Dunham and her husband Bob of Ashland; Richard Herbert Smith and his wife Karen of Ashland; Alan W. Smith and his wife Susan of Honolulu, HI; Linda Winters of Morro Bay, CA; Sandra Loomis and her husband Charles of Honolulu, HI; and William G. Smith of Phoenix, AZ; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Luanne Miller. A funeral service will be held Thursday Feb. 14th at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland. Calling hours will be held Wed. from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.
