Chuck proudly served in the US military from 1960 to 1966, and then had a long and successful career as a truck driver. Chuck was a skilled, self-taught musician with a special love for steel guitar. He has appeared at various famed venues such as the Bozo Show and Cheasaning Showboat. He even received the honor of an invitation to play at the Grand Ole Opry! Chuck's pride and joy however was his family and he most treasured the time they were able to spend together, whether at a picnic, holiday gathering, or vacation, or even a simple meal at he and his wife's long-time home in Bad Axe.
Chuck is preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Caldwell and Ruby Davenport, as well as two brothers, Ronnie and Terry Gilbert, and his brother-in-law Dewey Rosenbauer.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Klemmer) Gilbert; his children Mary Rosalin (Daniel) Umbreit, David Gilbert and Emily Hammond, Michael and Kathleen (Kirby) Gilbert, and Shayne and Kelly (Tenbusch) Gilbert; siblings Linda (Cecil) Duckworth and Sheila Diane Rosenbauer; grandchildren Travis, Briana, Branden, Danielle, Steven, Nathan, Michael, Jacqueline, Andrew, Corbyn, Kyla, and Sawyer; and two great grandchildren Claire and in sentiment, Alexis Akers; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his dear friends Paul Lowry and Emma Crockett, and Mike and Gail Davis.

Chuck was very colorful and always like to share a story or two with you. He was always friendly and could make you laugh. He loved playing the steel guitar. He was very close and loving with the Love of His Life, his wife, Mary. Also, their Children and Grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by family, relatives and friends.
When your praying for your family from Heaven please say a prayer all of us, too. My Heartfelt Love and Prayers are with you, Mary and all children, Grandchildren and family members.
RIP cousin, Rita.
