Larry Edward Schelke
Larry Edward Schelke, 78 of Harbor Beach passed away at home under hospice care Jan. 5, 2021.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1942 to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Golding) Schelke.
Larry was a graduate of Bad Axe High School, and attended Ferris State University and Wayne State University. He served in the United States Army, in the Military Police, and served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea.
Larry married Darlene (Adler) Messing, on May 20, 1995, and they celebrated 25 years together.
Larry worked for many years as the production manager at The Huron Daily Tribune, and also owned Schelke Excavating. He enjoyed spending time watching his grandkids play sports; he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers, Spartans and local high school sports. He enjoyed visits with family and friends. He took great pride in his yard and keeping his and his families vehicles' spotlessly clean.
Larry is survived by his wife Darlene; his children Kelly (Kevin) Block, Brad Schelke; his stepchildren Tammy (Brian) Roberts, and Tim (Tia) Messing; grandchildren Ethan, Nolan, Kelsey and Owen Block, Austin, Makayla and Brendan Roberts, and Shelby and Blake Messing. He is also survived by his siblings E. Lea Schelke, Laurel (Jim) Hicks, Ann Tank, Richard (Guylyn) Schelke, Jack (Phyllis) Schelke, Jill (Mike) Terrill, and Don (Tamie) Schelke; his in-laws Ron and Ruth Ann Adler, Jerry and Kathy Adler, and Jim and Jan Adler; many nieces and nephews; his special friends; and his loving cat, Snickers.
He was preceded in death by his in-laws John and Eleanor Adler, William "Bill" Klump, and Arthur Tank.
The family would like to say a special thanks to everyone that visited, brought food and helped care for Larry. He will be missed by many family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
