Haswell, Robert A.
Robert Ashton Haswell, 63, of Cromwell passed away peacefully on February 4, 2018 following a brief illness. Friends and family surrounded him.
Robert was born on March 23, 1954 in Key West, FL. Born the son of the late Fremont and Susan (Doherty) Haswell of Hoosick Falls, NY and Donegal, Ireland, he spent his childhood traveling the World while his father served in the United States Navy. When asked, he would often say that part of his heart was forever in Ireland and Brazil. Robert settled in Connecticut in the 1970s and began a long career in Nursing Home Administration. He managed various nursing facilities throughout the State and was known for his focus on empathetic and excellent patient care. He was a member of the in Cromwell.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Neil Haswell of Cromwell, CT.
Robert is survived by his former wife but forever best friend Kristine Haswell of Cromwell; his sister Suzann Haswell of Derby; his four daughters Martha Haswell-Bonaiuto and her husband David, Kristine Haswell, Susan Haswell of Cromwell and Hannah Hazelwood and her husband Matthew of Wallingford; his son Robert Ashton Haswell and his wife Hayley Haswell of Wethersfield; seven grandchildren who will forever remember him as Abba and his beloved partner and beautiful friend Soffia Jonsdottir of New Haven, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
The Haswell family would like to thank all those who loved and cared for Robert including Bill and Maryann Jordan and their son Billy, Dr. Nikolaos Vassiliou and Bobbie, Dr. David Gallo, Gail, and Dr. David Monti and his friend Bill Oppelt.
He will be remembered for the warmth of freshly tilled soil under his children's feet and his smile as another one of his gardens came to life. He will be remembered for his brilliance, his belief that a library card was the most important tool you could own and all the dog-eared books that always surrounded his chair. He will be remembered for his yellow legal pad and his endless lists. He will be remembered for his Sunday dinners and his ability to fix just about anything. He will be remembered by the people of Cromwell as the man who always seemed to be painting his house. He will be remembered for his work with the elderly and his belief that no one should have to worry at the end of their lives. He will be remembered for the dreams that he always chased and his love for his family and friends. He will be remembered.
