LaMonte Skoglund, Rosemarie
ROSEMARIE LaMONTE SKOGLUND, 81, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Gary Skoglund for 60 years. She was born in New Britain, CT, daughter of James and Angeline LaMonte. She is survived by her children, Karen Romero and husband Edward of Colchester, Thomas Skoglund and wife Robin of Meriden, Rebecca West and husband Mark of Parrotsville, TN; sisters, Joanne Michaud, Carol Ross, Angela LaMonte; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her and held her in high regard. She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Paul, Jennifer, Devin, Keara, Hannah, and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Wendi and Gianna.
She was the first in her family to graduate from Teachers College of Connecticut and earn two advanced degrees from Central Connecticut State University and Wesleyan University. She loved teaching kindergarten and first grade for more than 30 years at Van Buren Moody School in Middletown. She had a passion for democracy and good government, which she shared with her many friends as the Co-President of the League of Women Voters of CT, longtime President of the League of Women Voters of Greater Middletown and Chair of the Middletown Board of Ethics. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling the world with her husband Gary.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 6 at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Middletown. Burial will be in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. There are no calling hours. Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's choice.
