Steve and I graduated together in the first Xavier High School graduation class during the summer of 1967. We were not close friends because our paths did not often cross during our four years. However, I do remember that he was a quiet individual who typically thought a lot before he spoke. Also, I got the impression that he mentally prepared what he wanted to say BEFORE he actually said it.
I respect the fact that he decided to serve in our country's military after graduation. The Vietnam War was different in many ways from World Wars 1, 2 and the Korean War since it created a lot of dissension in our country. I was happy to read in Stephen's obituary that he attended several military reunions after he concluded his active service. I believe that this may have brought him a sense of peace and consolation since he was able to share his time and memories with individuals who had shared similar experiences.
I am honored to have been his classmate at Xavier. Thank you Steve - rest in peace.

I did not know Stephen but I wanted to thank him posthumously for his service and how he lived the rest of his life despite his horrors of the VN war.
His multitude of family, Marine family and friends were lucky to have him in their lives. May your memories of such an amazing person help you through this difficult time.
