Gloria Quillen Cook, 73, of Middletown, Delaware went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 18, 2019, with her husband and sons by her side. Gloria was beloved by all and will be deeply missed.

Gloria was born on April 3, 1946, to the late Margaret and Edward Quillen in Greensboro, Maryland. She attended Salisbury State University and was employed by the Hercules Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware for over 5 years before starting her own childcare business in Middletown. She then embarked on an over 40-year career as a U.S. Postal Service employee. It was a career she loved, and she was active in various leadership roles, including State President of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. She continued to support the postal service after retirement.

She enjoyed watching her sons play sports and of course, feeding them before and after games. She treasured spending time with her family, such as, taking day trips to Lancaster, family vacations to the beach with nieces and nephews, hosting Christmas dinner, and eating blue crabs on her back porch.

Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Carl, of 53 years and her children, Doug (Carole) and Scott (Karin). Gloria will also be fondly remembered by her three grandchildren, Ben, Vivian, and Mark and her sisters, Sandra Quillen and Joyce Hutchenson, and her brother, James Quillen.

Bethesda United Methodist Church has been an important part of Gloria's life since moving to Middletown in 1966. Gloria served as Youth Leader for the church early on, as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and was an active member in the church choir.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 6-8 p.m., at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

The funeral service will be held at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 116 E. Main St., Middletown, on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at noon following a brief visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Bethesda United Methodist Church in Middletown.

I have fond memories of growing up with Gloria. All those sleep overs, picnics and dinners. When we lost all our Aunts and uncles she became our anchor person. Carl, Scott and Doug, if you need anything, call.

What a blessing and an honor that our paths crossed in this journey. To know her was to love her. Always positive. A christian woman who walked as a witness and lived by example Ist Corinthians 13. A reflection of God's love.

Gloria was always a smiling face, contagious laughter and warm hugs. As a child of a rural carrier in the state of Delaware, Gloria was a consistent presence in my youth and my daughter's life. She was one of the many grandmothers for my daughter during the conventions/vacations. Praying for Carl and the boys.

Gloria was a very dear friend we have known for many years. Visits to her family home was like being invited to a food banquet prepared by a professional chef. She was a joy to be with and we will miss her hospitality and laughter. Our deepest sympathy to Carl and family.

May you find peace in your faith and know that Gloria is with her LORD. She was a great member of the Rural Letter Carriers' Association and always such a great friend, always smiling and saying hello even if I only saw her a couple times a year at our Conventions. I will pray for your peace, as I know she is in heaven with our LORD.

I dont even know if there were team moms in sports before Mrs. Cook. She just kind of took on that roll and created responsibilities and added new things. She was one of the people that introduced me to the notion that when dinner was being cooked, it wasnt a signal for you to leave. Always welcomed; always loved. Same goes for Mr. Cook. The epitome of what one would hope and expect from a couple and family from a small town. She very well may have invented pasta parties the night before football games, and this was traditionally a place we would meet for pictures before homecomings, proms, any event that was special. A mother to many students , athletes, and an M.O.T. Icon, Gloria will truly be missed.
