Joyce Higbee Obituary

Joyce Higbee, 71, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 18, 2021, at her home in Argyle.

Joyce was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Fort Madison, the third child of Herbert and Alice (Hays) Blacksmith.

She grew up on the family farm west of West Point, graduating from Central Lee High School. She attained her BA degree from UNI and later earned her master's degree in library science.

Joyce was united in marriage with Lewis Higbee on Dec. 27, 1986.

Joyce spent her working career as a school librarian, retiring from Central Lee. She was also very active in her Community Bible Study, serving as a core leader and teaching director for many years. Her love for this ministry touched all who knew her.

Joyce enjoyed time spent with her sisters, shopping, antiquing, card playing, and laughing. She treasured her children and welcomed each grandchild with utter joy.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Lewis; son Brian (Bree) Klemme; daughter Dana (Clete) Kamrath; grandchildren Quintin, Lizzy and AJ Klemme, and Jack, Eleanor and Henry Kamrath. She is also survived by her brother John (Pat) Blacksmith; sisters Jeanne (Dean) Krebill, Neva (Doug) Jordan, Luane (Mark) Suma, Debra Kay, and Kelly (Rodney) Busard; ex-husband Don Klemme; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Harvey Koch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb and Alice Blacksmith; and brother-in-law Robert Vonk.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, at First Baptist Church, Wayland, Mo.

Visitation with the family will be from 9-11 a.m.

As per Joyce's wishes, memorials may be directed to the Women's Missionary Circle, First Baptist Church, Wayland, Mo.
