Terry McGuffin Obituary

Terry E. McGuffin

11/19/1935 Detroit, Michigan
01/26/2015 Modesto, California
79 years old
Husband James Orville McGuffin 61 years  August 1953
Lived with her parents Frances Ella (Tuttle) Burke and Richard Andrew Burke next door to the McGuffin family in Detroit.  Moved to St. Clair Shores when Terry was 13, and was asked on her first date with Jim later that year.  They married when they were 17 and 19 years old and had their children James O. McGuffin, Jr. (Nancy) and Noël Bosson (Edward).  Moved to Modesto the summer of 1967 where Terry's sister Noelle Burke was living at the time.  Terry's beloved grandchildren Stephen Minter (Alyssa) in Knoxville, TN   Scott Campbell (Alexandra) in Oakland, CA   Katie O'Connell (Andrew) in Seattle   Colin Mooney (Zenda) in Salida, CA  and beloved step-just-as-loved grandchildren Emily Fitton Clark (Aron) in San Jose, CA  Rachel Mooney Govett (Nathan) in Turlock, CA   Alexander Bosson (Wendy) in Elk Grove, CA  Cynthia Kurtz Trausch (Darin) in Klamath Falls, OR   Daniel Kurtz (Amber), Daryl Kurtz (Jessica) both in Portland
Two great-grandchildren and one on the way, plus nine step(beloved) great-grandchildren.
She loved people and nourished their souls.  She loved crafts and was a talented artist - china painting, stained glass, knitting, crochet, sewing, macramé, creating costumes and decorating everything.  But tatting was her passion - she's won awards at the state fair and taught a class in tatting at Modesto Junior College for many years.  Her tatting buddies are all over the world - such dear friends.  She has been in the LDS faith for 28 years and loved publishing their newsletters, gathering the information, writing articles and puzzles.  She loved researching genealogy and kept in contact with cousins and childhood friends. Her entire life she's loved children, gave her own children an idyllic upbringing and was a Sunday school teacher for decades.   She devoted herself to her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends - everyone that knows her could feel her love and immense pride.

I never met Terry in person, but "met" her online when I purchased some tatting books from her. Terry was so helpful and kind, and generous with her tatting tips and advice. I'm so sorry I never got to meet her face-to-face. Terry is an angel who tats with the angels.

Terry was such a special person to everyone who knew her. I met her through tatting and we had so much fun getting together for our monthly tatting group. She will be greatly missed.

So hard to believe that my cousin is gone. Growing up I used to stay a week or two at her house. Terry got me on my first and last horse. Went bike riding. Needless to say she spoiled me. I loved being around her, later in life it was the phone calls and emails. Have said this before I have so many memories. My heart and prayers and thoughts, go out to Terry's family.

You was like a favor sister to me. Wonderful tatting teacher and willing to help everyone. Love are early morning talks together. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for you.
