JOSEPH N. SCIABICA SEPT 3, 1915 - OCT 29, 2010 Joseph Sciabica, who others knew as J.N. or Joe and also 'Nick' Sciabica, went home to the Lord, receiving his final healing in his home on Friday October 29, 2010. Joseph always taught his family that business was more than making money. It involved sincere relationships with customers who always deserved our very best efforts. He always said if he could not make the highest quality olive oil possible, he would not make any at all. He truly had a 'missionary's zeal' for supplying quality olive oil and loved the farmers' markets, both in Modesto and San Francisco. 'He taught us so much. We will never forget his influence on our family and we will continue to pass these ideals on to our next Sciabica generations.' - Daniel Sciabica Joseph is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gemma, his two sons Nick and Daniel, their wives Terry and Genevieve, four grandchildren Joseph, his wife Calley, Mari, her husband Robert Capps, Jonathan, his wife Katie, Christa, and four great-grandchildren Nicholas, Andrew, Dante and Gemma. Visitation will be Thursday November 4, 2010 from 4pm to 6:30pm at Franklin & Downs Funeral Chapel, 1050 McHenry Ave. The family will have a private rosary and funeral service. Charitable donations in Joseph's honor are welcome to these organizations: St. Stanislaus Church Building Fund Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose California Pro-Life Council Jesuit Retreat House of Los Altos www.modbee.com/obituaries

Our love and best wishes to my Aunt Gemma, my cousins Nick & Daniel and the
entire family. Fortunately, I was able
to truly get to know my Aunt & Uncle the
past few years. My uncle was the kindest, most considerate man I have ever known...in addition to being the
most beloved man to so many people in
life. Not only has he made the very best olive oil in the country, but he
has been such a loving, gentle man who
shall always be remembered!!!
My husband and I loved him very much, and our hearts go out to my Aunt
Gemma, my cousins Daniel and Nick and
the entire family. We feel very fortunate to be part of the family.
Love,

I first learned of your family and Joseph shortly after coming to Modesto. Since that time I have been impressed by both the love and dedication to quality and family that transcended Joseph's life at work and away.

As your Family adjusts to this loss of Joseph's company, may each of your family be comforted through the peace and love of our Savior.

Certainly sad news. I was introduced to Sciabica olive oil on a fly fishing trip to Mt. Lassen years ago. We had landed in Sacramento and drove to our destination. We passed by the "Olive Grove" ??? and decided to exit and check it out. Needless to say, the olive oil got my attention. Being a chef, I immediately appreciated the quality of these oils which I purchased at the shop, and immediately sought out the oils in gallon jugs for use in my restaurant. Once while ordering over the phone, I had the pleasure of conversing with Joseph...he actually talked me into purchasing one of the family cook books. He will be missed, and I am honored by the pleasure of enjoying the Sciabica oils. Sincerely, Robb H. "RIBB' Richmond (formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico)

Joseph leaves an amazing olive oil, but most importantly he and his wife raised a beautiful family, sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I feel honored to have known him and the integrity that he had and instilled on those that he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on!

Joseph was the man who introduced me to olive oil!
Well, ok, he had some help from his kids and grand kids.
But he did call me at least once a year to see if I needed more olive oil.

I had never had a living grandfather, until I met Joseph Sciabica. The sweetest grandfather I could dream of! Today I wrote his name on the book that was presented to the altar on the commemoration of all the faithful departed. A warm hug to Gemma and the entire family.

My fiance and I have been ordering Marsala olive oil to our home in Los Angeles because its simply the best olive oil. Besides the way it graces our dishes nightly, we enjoyed Mr. Sciabica's quarterly phone calls asking us if we were ready to place another order. Somehow he always knew when we were running low. What a salesman, what a purveyor, what a wonderful family man.

A Heart felt Thank You From Katy, Tx.
My heart goes to Gemma as well as his sons and grandson Jonathan. I hold a very special place in my heart for "Grandpa" Sciabica as he taught me everything I know about olive oil and has allowed me to represent him and his world class oils here in Katy, Texas. For the past 7 or 8 years I have shared his vision and goal of world class oils to the residents of Houston, Texas with honor and pride. God's Blessing go with you and may the angels watch of your wonderful family as they continue your tradition of such a wonderful legacy.

I still have his recent Email and voice mail on my cell phone reminding me to order my olive oil. What a special inspirational and kind person that Joseph was; and I realized that the first time he came to my office for nutrition counseling many years ago, gifting me with two bottles of the best olive oil and sharing the the health benefits of "the liquid gold" Condolences to the Sciabica and Rose family. May your grief be softened by many wonderful memories of dear Joseph.God bless you. Agape love, Dr. Sonni Alvarez PhD.

Dear Sciabica Family:

This is Rose Littler Brians, writing for our family and deceased husband Bill Littler, your former soccer coach, and sister of Brad Wilson.

Our heart felt sympathy is with you all. We loved your father and saw him many times to buy our oil from him at the market. I was at breakfast with friend when I heard and had to leave to call Brad to make sure he was also ok. He loved Mr. Sciabica more than we know.

Our prayers are with you. Larry and Rose Brians.
