Alba VerHulst
January 7, 1937 -
May 30, 2018
Alba "Al" VerHulst will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Diane (née Caputi) and his sons Al (Amber) and Duane (Eileen). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren James, Therin, Anthony, Rowan, and Brenna.
Alba greeted everyone with a smile and a hug. His warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew him.
He proudly served in the Army and, later, when he joined the American Legion he was proud to be a part of the Honor Guard. He was a dedicated employee of Campbell Soup and still met with his workmates "The Campbell Soup Kids" monthly. He was a tireless soccer coach and referee not only for his own kids but for adult teams as well. Alba loved puttering about in his garden enjoying God's critters and creation. He adored his boys and loved having them home "just to hear them talk". Most of all, he was a devoted husband to the lovely, lively lady who not only held his hand but also held his heart. They danced through life together both figuratively and literally...three times a week! Alba & Diane we're playfully dubbed the "kissing couple" because they would start and end each dance with a kiss.
His heart was always open. "God is love and God is all around us," he would often say. Showing love and kindness to everyone was Alba's way of sharing God. He was blessed with a good life and we were blessed to have him.
Alba would part the same way he'd greet with a smile, a hug and then he'd say "God be with you" before you went on your way.
