Charles Louis Fuentes
August 11, 1940 - January 3, 2019
78, of Modesto, completed his life's journey after a brave battle with many health challenges, the 3rd of January 2019. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Pop is loved and will be missed for the rest of our lives.
He was born August 11, 1940 in Turlock, California to the late Eugene (Gus) and Lydia Fuentes. He was preceded in death by his grandson Charles Eugene Fuentes and his brother Ernest.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sydney Cordell-Fuentes, his adored and admired children, Todd (Marsha), Jeffery (Kristene), Julie (Art) Grande, his cherished grandchildren, Michael Brock, Stephen Hampshire, Brandon Bass, Trevor Hampshire, Jeffery C. Fuentes, Chase Fuentes, step-granddaughters Cassandra Hake and Maya Salas, six great-grandchildren, and sisters Helen Muscio, Celeste (Maynard) Schoen, Madeline (Don) Holloway and many nieces and nephews.
He loved his children beyond measure and was very active in their lives. He was so very proud of the adults they became. He was also active in our community aggravating many with his tenacity to bring about change. He loved his country and proudly served in the US Army 1963-1965.
He lived his life to the fullest. He played varsity high school football, Thomas Downey class of '58, loved body building and was a gym rat. He participated in cross country running, long distance bicycle riding, rugby, racquetball, petanque, and adult soccer. He coached many of his children's youth soccer teams.
At his request there will be no formal service. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday January 19, 2019, 1:00 - 3:00, at El Ranchito restaurant in Riverbank.
The family asks that you remember him in your prayers and "pay forward" an act of kindness in his memory.
