Ellen Anne Weideman was born in Santa Barbara, CA on January 18, 1930 to Esther & John Weideman. She was the 3rd of 4 siblings. The family moved to Lodi, CA, where Ellen graduated from high school. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, receiving her Associates degree in Christian Education in 1950. She returned to California to teach.
She was joined in marriage to Raymond Bekedam of Ripon, CA in 1952. They made their home in Modesto, first on a rural dairy farm, then in town. To their union were born 4 children. Ellen then attended Stanislaus State University, earning her Bachelor's Degree. She later got a Master's Degree in Special Education from San Francisco State.
Ellen taught 4th, 5th, & 6th grade in the Sylvan School District for around 25 years. She taught Special Education classes at Woodrow Elementary School for many of those years.
Her special interests included piano, organ, choir, & reading. She volunteered at Grace Lutheran Church, holding many different leadership positions. After she retired Ellen became an avid Giants fan, listening daily on the radio.

Her father, John Carl Michael Weideman, her mother Esther Sophie (Martin) Weideman, her 3 siblings, John Weideman, Gretchen Moser, & Robert Earl Weideman, & her husband of almost 60 years, Raymond Bekedam, all preceded her in death.
