Joan Gertrude Small of Modesto passed away July 2, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in San Luis Obispo, CA to the parents of Julius H. and Edith G. Defossett. She moved to the Modesto area where she grew up and graduated from Modesto High School.
She had a long career as a Lab Technician at Norris Industries. She enjoyed her children and their horse ranch while the children were young. Joan and James owned the Whistle Stop Bar in Oakdale in the 70's.
Joan will be remembered for her love of family, her hand made jewelry that she loved to make for her friends and family. She always had a smile for everyone she met. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, along with a sister and a brother, husband James Richard Whitt, husband Richard James Small, daughter Cinda Silva. She is survived by her sons, Richard D. Whitt, Steven D. Whitt and Michael J. Whitt, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside service will held July 18, 2018 at 10:00 am at Lakewood Memorial Park located at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson and a Celebration of Joan's life will be held after the service.
