Marilyn R. Strait
Feb 13, 1932 - July 3, 2018
Marilyn R Strait passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born February 13, 1932 in Oakland, California and resided in Modesto since 1954. Marilyn was a beloved mother of 5 children, sister, aunt, grandmother to 6, great grandmother of 5, and great-great grandmother of 1.
She was a member in several service clubs including Modesto Lions, SPEBSQSA, Job's Daughters, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Modesto Dollers' Club, and Leich Colony Social Club in her earlier years, and remained active playing bridge with friends at The Bridge Center. She worked for several years with the visually impaired and deaf programs as a paraprofessional. Marilyn enjoyed her summers at Camp Pacifica for almost 20 years. She was always ready to volunteer to help kids.
Marilyn referred to herself as a "homemaker" but she was so much more to those who knew her. Her father always called her the "Queen of Hearts" (having her birthday so close to Valentine's day) and she did her best to live up to that name every day.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Janet Whitaker; brother-in-law, Larry White; her children Linda Wieland, Cheryl Tucker, Robert White, Jean Angott, and Debra Shaffer; her grandchildren Sean Storie, Shannen Tucker, Kelley Schaffer, Ryan Small, Erin Moreno, Amanda Angott, Philip Strait Jr, Meagan Strait, Mitch Strait, and Erika Pierce; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Modesto Masonic Lodge, 800 Rose Ave., Modesto, CA 95355.
