Marquita Ann McIntire
May 23, 1927 - Sept. 9, 2018
On September 9, after a day surrounded by her children and grandchildren, shared laughter and tears, song and prayer, Marquita breathed her last breath here and her first in the presence of Jesus.
Marquita, Marq, Mom, Grandma, Mrs. Mac, has been a local celebrity from the mid-sixties. She is remembered for the fashion shows and her fun and flamboyant style. She is known for having raised the McIntire Twelve, Keith, Joel, David, Gerry, Minda, Melissa, Kevin, Kolin, Karen, Craig, Curtis, and Marta. She is brought to mind when Officers' Wives Club, Toastmasters, Rockin A's Square Dance Club and other local clubs from the past are mentioned. Some may recall her as Col. Jesse C. McIntire's beautiful wife. Others, for the sunset love between two elders who met in a writing class, leading to her marriage to Paul Geisler.
But her greatest notoriety is her love, kindness, and generosity toward all people. Marquita always had an open door, a seat at the table, and enough food to go around, even if the cupboards didn't appear to. She would share the last of anything she had and she would make you feel as though it was always intended for you. A stranger always welcomed and a gift just for that purpose, the name tag added moments before Christmas gifts were passed. Marquita became Mom and Gma to many as her loving kindness enveloped those she met. Her lifelong mantra has been carried on in those she so affected: "There's always room for one more."
