Marvin Nelson Hatfield
November 19, 1932 - January 1, 2019
Marvin Nelson Hatfield of Hughson, CA passed away on Tuesday January 1, 2019 after reaching the age of 86. After a short illness, he died peacefully at home.
Marvin was born in Tolleson, AZ. He and his family moved around quite a bit before settling in Hughson.
Marv attended Lowell grammar school and graduated from Hughson High school in 1951. As an adult he worked his way through Modesto Junior College, attending night classes to earn his associate's degree.
At a very young age Marv learned to work hard and was willing to do whatever was necessary to support he and his family. After retiring from farming he was employed by Creative Alternatives and Reyn Franca school working with at-risk youth.
Marv enjoyed many different pastimes during his long and wonderful life. He was a wrestling referee for many years. He loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid reader. He was an active member of Hughson United Methodist Church, often serving as an usher on Sundays. One of his favorite pastimes was attending sporting events at his alma matter Hughson High School. Marv spent many joyous hours watching his kids', grandkids', and great grandkids' sporting events, musical performances, dance recitals, and all of the many other activities they participated in – all knew that they could count on him to be in the stands. Most of all, he was a passionate golfer who was most proud when he shot his age or lower.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years Doris Beck Hatfield, by his parents Andy and Lottie Hatfield, his brothers Emmit, Arlie and Darel Hatfield, and his sister-in-law Jeanne Hatfield.
He is survived by his wife of eleven years Jean Henley Hatfield, his brother Nelson (Denise) Hatfield, his sister-in-law June Mills, and by his children Keith (Kathy) Hatfield, Karen (Alvin) Hobby, Ann (John) Bairos, Brian (Liz) Henley, and Brenda Henley. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Nick, Jill, Michelle, Melissa, Jenna, Katie, Samantha, Sarah, David, Simon, Rachel and their spouses. He leaves behind 23 great grandchildren, who will miss their 'Old Papa'. He will be greatly missed by his loving extended family and by his Tuesday and Thursday golf buddies.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019, 11:00 AM at Hughson United Methodist Church, 2007 6th St, Hughson, CA 95326. A celebration lunch will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughes Hall, 7820 Fox Rd, Hughson, CA 95326.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hughson United Methodist Church or a youth-focused .
