Janyth Pomerville, 89, of LaSalle, passed peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2018.
She was the daughter of Horatio and Lorena (Niethammer) Lennington and the adopted daughter of George and Lorena Paxson.
She was a 1946 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1950 graduate of Western Michigan University.
She taught school for approximately 35 years, mostly in the Monroe School System. She was passionate about children learning to read, and engaged them to share her love for reading.
Following her retirement, Janyth joined the Peace Corps and spent 3 years in Swaziland, Africa, training teachers and organizing various aspects of their school system. She was proud of her work there, and developed relationships which continued through the remainder of her life.
Janyth was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, including Habitat for Humanity and, much to her delight, the Bed Races in support of children's welfare. She was an avid reader, especially related to alternative health approaches and spirituality.
Janyth was a 50+ year resident of North Shores in LaSalle, and enjoyed the Lake Erie views and breezes. She was a strong woman that loved and was loved by her family - she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Louis (Mary), George (Yoshie) and Jeffrey Pomerville; 3 grandchildren, Scott Pomerville, Ryan and Kyle (Ashlee) Patterson. She was preceded in death by her father, Horatio Lennington, her adoptive father, George Paxson, her mother Lorena Paxson, a son, John Pomerville, sister Barbara Grosteffon and brother Aaron Paxson.
Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery, LaSalle. The memorial service will be private.
