I will remember Mr. "G" as being a personable kind of guy. "What's up, buttercup!" he'd ask as I poured his 10:00 a.m. cup of coffee at Sunrise. He enjoyed sharing anecdotes. As he was listening to a Glen Miller CD, he recalled when he attended Friday night dances in a church hall in SF. "There was no entrance fee but you did have to buy drinks. I could only afford one but I made it last till the dance ended!" he chuckled. Mr. G was sharp as a tack and wowed us with his knowledge of history, government, presidents, famous quotes, cars, and more. Most of all, I appreciate Mr. G for his openness in talking about his life experiences. On the topic of war, he'd state - "There are no winners in war." And in life in general, he believed in "giving praise where praise was due." I'm blessed I had the chance to know Mr. G. and I'll not forget him.

A Tribute to Bill Gianelli, California Water Leader
During the early 1960's, Bill Gianelli was an engineering consultant to the Turlock and Modesto Irrigation Districts advising the districts on water rights matters for the Federal Power Commission licensing of the New Don Pedro Project on the Tuolumne River. My law firm has been TID's outside general counsel since the 1930's. I have had the honor of serving in that role for over 40 years now. The foundation of my water rights knowledge was acquired from working with Bill when he was a private consultant in the late 1970's and then the late 1980's. I remember Bill's stories of his experiences on the MPWMD Board of Directors, which didn't have any meaning to me until my law firm became Marina Coast WD's legal counsel. I am eternally grateful to Bill for the knowledge he imparted to me as a young water attorney. He was the most important Water Leader to me.
