Ambrose Kinion Obituary

On August 26, 2005, at the age of 88, Ambrose Joseph "Skip" Kinion passed away peacefully at his Carmel residence, where he had lived since 1957. Skip was born on May 17,1917 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Upon graduation form The University of New Hampshire, he enlisted in The United States Navy, training as a Pilot at Pensacola. Skip served in American, European, and Pacific Theaters in World War 11, and in The Korean War, receiving numerous commendations and medals of honor and retired from The Navy after 28 years of service. At that time, he began his second career as a teacher, and taught for many years at Robert Louis Stevenson, where he was fondly known as "Commander". He was an avid golf enthusiast and a viewer of all sports, becoming a familiar figure to his family in his favorite red chair with his remote control and his dog, Buddy. We will miss the lengthy political debates, his many war stories, his unusual Christmas gifts, and his dry sense of humor. Skip is survived by his daughters, JoAnn (Ted) Davis of Saint Simon's Island, Georgia, Judith Nail of Carmel, Jeri (Dale) Meisenheimer of Salinas, Janys (Steve) Barlow of San Rafael, and his sons, Todd (Patrice) Kinion of Watsonville, and Brendan Kinion of Carmel. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. His wife, Eleanor T. Kinion, his sons, Terrance J. Kinion and Timothy J. Kinion, and his daughter, Jayne Kinion, preceded him in death. A memorial service is planned for October 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at The Carmel Mission Chapel, with a reception tofollow. The family is requesting that memorials in Skip's memory be made to The Carmel Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 6418, Cann el, CA 9392 1. We are extremely grateful for their many years of compassion, expertise and dedication.
