Stella Biason Obituary
Stella Italia Biason
May 26, 1907 ~ July 11, 2011

CARMEL - Stella passed peacefully at 104 years old on July 11, 2011. She was born to migrant workers, Giuseppe and Carolina Scarton on May 26, 1907 in Wilfrath, Germany. After her birth, her family was repatriated back to Belluno, Italy at the start of World War I. Stella, and her five siblings were raised in the small mountain village of Villa de Villa, Italy. At the age of 21, she married and had a son, Sergio and daughter, Eliza. Shortly thereafter, she became widowed and lost her son to rheumatic fever. In the coming years, she and her daughter moved to Florence, Italy where she owed a fine linen store for several years. Eventually, she and Eliza moved to America where they joined Stella's sister, Lena, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1936, she met and married a local stone mason, Giuseppe (Joe) Biason; they were wed in 1938 and had a son, John in 1940. At Stella's insistence they started buying and remodeling houses in and around the Detroit area and eventually developed several small housing tracts, which allowed them the luxury of early retirement. On a trip to California in 1960 while visiting their son John, stationed at Port Hueneme, Joe and Stella drove up the coast to discovered Carmel, where they lived out the remainder of their lives, believing that they had finally found paradise! Joe passed away in May of 1992 at the age of 96 and Stella lived on to finally settle at Agape of Carmel, where she was considered the matriarch by her fellow residents and staff. Stella outlived her parents, siblings, spouses and all but one of her children. She is survived by her son, John of Carmel; grandchildren, Elisa Lepine, Christopher Biason, and Angela Cordrey (Justin) and their son; and Stella's sole great grandson, Hudson, born in April, 2011, much to her delight. She is also survived by granddaughter, Leslie (Steve) Bilodeau of Maine and their nine children, Caroline (Pat) and their daughter and Stella's sole great, great granddaughter and namesake, Stella, Peter, John, Joanna, Steve, Leah, Grace, Emma, and Noah.
How blessed Stella was and what a wonderful journey she had. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Fickleworth family and staff of Agape of Carmel for the tender loving care they provided to Stella in her final years. She was truly blessed and loved - what a great testimonial of life and what a perfect ending to an exciting journey! God Bless Stella!
A Memorial Service will be held at Carmel Mission Basilica on August 3, 2011 at 10:00am, followed by a reception and celebration of life.
