Patricia Stephenson Obituary
A long time resident of Carmel, she was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa; the first child of Virginia Neighlie. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska with her mom; step-father, Gordon Shattuck; brother, Craig Shattuck and step-sister, Lynn Shattuck. Patty graduated with high honors from Oklahoma University and the Chicago School of Fine Arts. During WWII she moved to San Francisco, working as a receptionist at a seed factory. During one of her frequent visits to her great-aunt Lucille (Sally) Stitt in Carmel, she met architect Robert Anderson Stephenson. After a lengthy courtship they married and made their home in Carmel. She has a son, Robert C. Stephenson of Salinas.
A home maker most of her life, she worked at Studio Art Supplies, selling art supplies and paintings. She later worked at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club doing secretarial work.
Patty was fond of fine art, fine music, fine literature and fine conversation. She, with her great-aunt Sally, was a founding member of the Carmel Bach Festival Ladies Guild, providing refreshments to the festival musicians. She also faithfully attended Monterey Symphony Concerts, especially enjoying the pre-concert talks given by David Wittrock.
Patty was a member of the 20-40 Club and a life member of Alcoholics Anonymous; known as "Peppermint Patty". She is pre-deceased by Robert A. Stephenson and step-sister, Lynn Shattuck. She is survived by her brother, Craig Shattuck (Perth, Australia); son, Robert C. Stephenson (Salinas); grand-daughters, Elizabeth (Salinas), Nancy (Carmel) and great grandchildren, Genesis, Zachariah, and Ronan (Carmel).
Memorials in Patty's honor are welcome and should be made to Camerata Singers Futures Program, P.O. Box 428, Salinas, CA 93902. At her request no memorial service is planned. A celebration of her life will take place on September 13 at the Carmel River Lagoon Beach from 1:00-4:00 PM.

I met Patty through Duncan Stitt many years ago and enjoyed visiting her in Carmel. She was such a nice lady and will be greatly missed.
