William Coleman Amason, 87, died July 20, 2012, at Bill Nichol's State Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL, having moved there from the CAVHCS East Campus New Horizon Community Living Center, Tuskegee, AL, on March 1, 2012. Before residing at NHCLC for therapy and rehabilitation as a result of a stroke he suffered on February 7, 2011, he was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, a 1943 graduate of Ramer High School and a veteran of World War II. Visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home in Montgomery at 10am on Monday, July 23, 2012, followed by funeral services with military honors in the chapel at 11am, officiated by Pastor Chuck Francisco. A private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Prattville at a later time. Mr. Amason was predeceased by his late wife, Bertie Free Amason; parents, John W. Amason, Sr. and Mattie Ruth Holody Amason; siblings, John W. Amason, Jr., Ruth Amason Hooks Arant, Richard Nathan Amason, and Mary Frances Amason Hooks. He is survived by his wife's daughter and family; Sylvia Pierce and husband Bill; their two sons, Steven and Russell (Alison) Pierce, and their four grandchildren; Kristen, Kali, Tyler and Adison Pierce. He is also survived by the wife and family of his wife's late son, John Bryant Cooper; Margie Cooper; her two children; Johnny Ray Cooper and Virginia Ann Cooper; and her three grandchildren; Brooke and Victoria Cooper, and Brian McClellan. He is also survived by youngest brother, Gib Holody Amason; sister-in-law, Margaret Moseley (Robert L.); a host of nieces and nephews, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many great friends and neighbors too numerous to mention, but one deserving special mention is a devoted lifelong friend, neighbor, and 9am Chesser Community patrol companion, Mr. Fred Paulk. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Pierce, Russell Pierce, John Hooks, Danny Hooks, Carey Cauthen, and John W. Amason, III. Memorials may be made in the form of donations to one's favorite charity.
