William "Bill" Whittle

Hayneville - William Otto "Bill" Whittle, a resident of Hayneville, AL, passed away on August 10. A Korean War veteran, Mr. Whittle had a successful career in the insurance industry. He was an avid farmer, with a love for cattle and the outdoors. His life was full with family, friends and lots of good jokes. Mr. Whittle was a previous member of the Hayneville Town Council and was active in the Hayneville Baptist Church, having been honored in 2012 as a Deacon Emeritus. He was born in Lowndes County to Otto Lafayette Whittle and Leora Roberts Whittle on March 6, 1925, and is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Wilson Whittle, his brother, ZD Whittle and his sisters Iris Whittle Graddy Williams and Eleanor Whittle Bender. He is survived by his children, Rosemary Whittle Blackmon, Johnny Blackmon, Angela Whittle James (Tim), and William Otto Whittle, Jr., and his grandchildren William Otto Whittle, III, John Brooks Blackmon (Jordan), Olivia Blackmon Oliphant (Jonathan), Fleming James, Timothy Ellington James, Jr. (Ann Turner), Sarah James Kennedy (Mark David) and great grandchild Timothy Ellington James, III. His is also survived by four amazing caregivers, Bernice Parker, Lue Ella McBride, Juanita Ringstaff and Mary Gordon and longtime family housekeeper and friend Mattie Robinson. The family will have a private burial followed by the funeral at the Hayneville Baptist Church on August 12 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hayneville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 367, Hayneville, AL 36040.
