Obituary Condolences


John Thomason Alley, Jr. affectionately known as "Big John" age 60, of Auburn, Alabama passed away on August 1st, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Sue M. Alley and his daughters, Catherine Alley Pollard (Will), Susan Alley, Dixie Alley, and Liz Alley as well as his mother, Lavinia Alley and his sisters Dixie Segrest (Dorman), Lavinia Parnell, and Susan Woodruff (Carl) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomason Alley of Auburn, AL.

He was a proud 1972 graduate of Auburn High School where he excelled in football and causing trouble. He then went on the The University of the South: Sewanee where he lettered in varsity football and baseball and was president of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. He received his Juris Doctor from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1979 and practiced law in the Montgomery and Auburn area for 35 years. He was an active member of the Auburn Rotary Club and volunteered his time teaching underprivileged kids to fish as well as taking veterans with the Wounded Warrior Project hunting and fishing.

He loved spending time with his wife and daughters, and spent many years coaching and cheering them on at numerous athletic events. He loved the Auburn Tigers and fishing with his friends. He lived life large, loved his many friends that he thought of as family and never met a stranger.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, August 5th 2014 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary of Auburn United Methodist Church, 137 S. Gay St, Auburn, AL a visitation will precede the service at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Big John's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, Inc. or the Auburn Rotary Club.
