Earnest Will Salter

Montgomery - Mr. Earnest Will Salter a resident of Montgomery, AL transitioned to his heavenly citizenship on May 1, 2019. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Jude Catholic Church. Interment at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Cemetery in Montgomery, AL. Earnest W. Salter is survived by his devoted wife, Thomasette Paige Salter; three(3) children Erna Salter, Ena Salter and Marcus Barley; sisters-in-law, Nettie Salter; Nell Paige Hogan; brother-in-law, Thomas (Claire) Paige; nieces and nephews, Ronald (Valerie) Salter, Kimberly (Jamelyn) Salter, Taylor Salter, Ronald Salter Jr., Courtney Salter, Ricardo Hogan, Monica Paige (Kelvin) Mack, Thomas Paige III (Vickie), Cedric (Audrey) Hogan, and Kim Hogan; devoted and loyal friends, Robert Gamble, Farrell Duncombe, Gerson Miles and a host of other relatives and friends, too numerous to list. Born August 17, 1939 in Crenshaw County to the late Leroy and Rosie Cleo Salter completed his formative school years at Nazareth School and Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, AL. His ambition and enthusiasm drove him to enroll in his beloved Tuskegee University in 1957. At Tuskegee, he became an athletic trainer and held this position until graduation. As a result of his success, he lettered for each year and received numerous certificates and a lettered jacket. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in 1961 and his master's degree in 1975. He was inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. Salter was dedicated to the classroom where he shined as an educator. He began his career at Emory Street High School in Dalton, GA; he served as basketball coach in Chicago, IL and assistant head coach at R.L. Cousin High School in Douglasville, GA; head football and basketball coach at Booker T. Washington Junior High School, Montgomery, AL. Later, he transferred to Houston Hill Junior High School where he completed 30 years of service in the field of education. Salter's commitment extended to his love of community and brotherhood. He was a long time active member of Saint Jude Catholic Church where he participated in bible study and was a charter member of the Knights of Peter Claver. He was also a dedicated and loyal member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. He greatly loved the "Frat" and enjoyed the brotherhood. Omega Rites Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home.

There will never be another Mr. Salter! He was truly one-of-a-kind...The Very BEST! When I saw the announcement, tears flooded my eyes! I wanted just one more time to tell him thank you!
