WINSER, Joan Price
August 24, 1925 – May 19, 2014
Joan decided to join her beloved husband of 49 years, Frank, on Monday May 19, 2014 at the age of 88. She was the loving Mum of Kathy (John Robertson), Deb (Hugh Notman) and Sally (Michael McLachlan). "Hip" Granny of Lauren, Diana, Samantha, Emma and Morgan. Beloved sister of Derek Price and predeceased by brothers Bill, Hart, Tom, and Peter. Also, predeceased by Peter Heybroek, her companion in later life. Survived by her brother-in-law Cedric Winser, sisters-in-law Helen, Merne, Jill, Penny and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There is no way to convey the strength of Joan's spirit and joie de vivre in these few words. But all who knew her were better for it. She gave so much to the world and served as a role model for her children and their families. Joan, daughter of Lorna and Jack Price, grew up in Quebec City. She was the only girl and the eldest of six children. She brought her drive and leadership to King's Hall, Compton, both as a student and later on the board as the school was launched on a new path. Years spent in Ottawa and Toronto were exciting times, but probably Westmount held the best memories, with weekends in Magog and summers in Metis. She was the "hostess with the mostess," a tireless worker for the Conservatives through many campaigns, and community volunteer. Her upbringing taught her to always give to others less fortunate than herself. Her enthusiasm and loyalty never dimmed and her interest in public affairs has been passed on through the generations that followed her. She served her country well, in particular as Consul General in Los Angeles, where she raised Canada's profile to new levels, and earned the respect of all. The family would like to thank Cathy, Juvie, Adelfa, Luce and the staff at Chateau Westmount for their loving care. A Service to Celebrate Joan's Life will be held at St. James the Apostle Church 1439 St. Catherine Street, W, Montreal on Monday, May 26 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: BCS Foundation – att Advancement Dept. 80 Moulton Hill Road, CP5001, Succ, Lennoxville, Sherbrooke, QC J1M1Z8 or Montreal Association for the Blind 7000 Sherbrooke Street, W, Montreal QC H4V1R3.

Dear Girls,
To me and everyone she met in Los Angeles she and FCW were Canadian royalty. Her Royal Highness Queen Joan had style galore. Who will ever forget the hostess with the mostest entertaining at the Official Residence? There she was at the end of the evening --- with a glass of red wine in her right hand, a cigarette in her left and no shoes. She had extraordinary panaché in every breath she took. It is certainly a tribute to her legacy that people still continue to speak about her reign in LA almost thirty years later! She was the rarest of diamonds and her brilliance will shine forever.

Joan's departure from this planet evokes many memories of playing together with her and her brothers when they lived on Laurier Avenue in the '30's. Although living in Australia for the past several decades, I always tried to see Joan when I returned to your shores.I'll always think wonderful things about Joanie, and will remember her forever.

Dear Sally - please accept my condolences. In the years since your family moved away from Mayfair Avenue, I only saw your Mum once, but she remembered me right away. I'll always be reminded of the Winsers when I see a willow tree!

My deepest condolences to the Winser family and friends. Although I've only known Joan during her time at Chateau, I was honored to have known such a wonderful lady ,with a big heart and a great sense of humor. I'll miss the big warm hello she would greet you with, and the following conversations that would brighten your day. Joan loved many of the people around her, her care-givers and especially her daughters. Joan will be sadly missed.
