For you Trish - it was with great sorrow and nostalgia that I read of your delightful mother's death. 1972 seems such a long time ago now. And the Bethells are often in my memories.

Dear Liz, Trish & Jill, deepest sympathies to you all. Between Metis, Murray Hill & of course The Study, we shared many wonderful times in those early years. I can still see your mother sitting for hours doing a jigsaw puzzle during some of Metis's "cooler" days... Blessings!

Thank you one and all, both MacDougall's & Bethells for such a warm welcome into your extended family. I never knew Lorna, but heard many stories from my wife. Thank you John and Marion for inviting me to join you in a tour of Bethell House. That was where I finallyI met Lorna in so many ways.
What a wonderful legacy she has left for the family and fortunate individuals that will be able to spend their final days in a place of warmth and dignity. I felt as though I had stepped into a warm muffin. And I feel that is what your Lorna wanted.
Thank you Lorna and you too Jaime, for honoring me with Laurie Bethell. I have bought a few lotto tickets in the past, but I never had the winning numbers........till now.
I am a very Grateful man.
Namaste,
Doug Bratt

Lorna Bethell was and always will be my Mother-In-Law. She was an incredibly strong, kind, gracious and generous woman, knowing what was right and good, and living it daily. While Lorna had many interests, so much of her energy and effort went into the building of the hospice that was named for her beloved husband, Tony.Bethell and for Jamie Bethell, her step-son. Bethell House is a warm, welcoming facility that addresses the needs of those with life limiting illnesses.
Lorna set a rare example of how to love, give, maintain strong ethics in a changing world, build on long standing traditions (especially at Christmas), and create a wonderful home life.... all while staying connected to friends and extended family throughout the world.
What do I admire most about Lorna? Lorna raised three compassionate, intelligent, and giving daughters. And each of her grand children are wonderful young adults, all wanting to add and give back to the world.
And Lorna's vision of honoring Tony, with the legacy of the Bethell House, is a great feat that most women at the age of 40 wouldn't attempt..... Lorna was in her mid seventies when she started fulfilling her dream to build this much needed facility.
She will always be remembered by me and my son, Rafe Bethell.

Lorna, you were a great neighbour and friend. It was always entertaining working with you and our boys still remember the lemon cookies. My wife only spoke with you on the phone but felt she knew you personaly.Knowing you for ten years was hardly enough.
